The aim of this project is to re-use Menekse Match Factory and revitalise its surroundings. The competition area is located at a valuable point; making a connection with the water and protecting the factory's history with innovative approaches were important issues in the project. Having a lot of universities and a "Nuclear Research Center" in the surroundings, accessibility of transportation by different alternative ways, a green corridor at the coastline and touching the water affected the decision of the design. According to these facts we decided to reuse this area as an "Ecological Research park" which includes workshops, and labs. exhibition areas, library, cafe-restaurant and accommodation for academics. We wanted to continue the purpose of production with the new function. Our aim was to create a sustainable area which can produce its own energy with solar panels on the roof and wind turbines while providing participation of the students, academicians and the public. The additional purpose is to purify Kucukcekmece Lake which was polluted by factory wastes. our prosal is to purify the lake with swimming green modules which are produced in workshops.
